Abstract

The increasing number of hip arthroplasties has required greater knowledge of techniques which allow effective removal of prosthetic components when a revision surgery is necessary. ln particular for cases of periprosthetic infection, when the thorough cleaning of the medullary canal is fundamental to the eradication of the disease, often a greater exposure of the femoral canal is needed. On these occasions, the extended trochanteric osteotomy, a reproducible and relatively simple technique, is possible to be performed. ln this article, we describe the surgical technique of extended trochanteric osteotomy and we report the first step of a patient with infected hybrid prosthesis treated with revision in two stages.
