Abstract

Regional anesthesia of the foot is performed by peripheral anesthetic block of the following nerves: tibial, saphenous, superficial peroneal, deep peroneal and saphenous. This technique can be used as the main anesthetic or as an adjunct to analgesia in patients who are to undergo general or spinal anesthesia, during the execution of larger surgery procedure. Is indicated for the forefoot and midfoot surgeries. Regional anesthesia of the foot is a safe and effective method, reducing the anesthetic risks involved in general or spinal anesthesia, providing greater comfort after surgery, high degree of patient satisfaction, and reduce hospital costs to allow for outpatient surgery.
