Abstract

Congenital femoral deficiency is a complex condition that defines bony and soft tissues anomalies, including shortening, varus and delayed ossification of the neck or subtrochanteric region, extension and retroversion of proximal femur, valgus knee due to hypoplasia of lateral condyle, flexion and abduction hip soft tissue contractures, and flexion and instability of the knee because of lack of central pivot ligaments. The reconstruction should be comprehensive, preparing the femur and soft tissues for lengthening. This is a report of a 20-month-old child operated for limb reconstruction described by Paley as SUPERHIP, to the type 1B congenital femoral deficiencies. All associate procedures to obtain an adequate functional result are described. A complication as loss of position of proximal femur in valgus is reported after plate removal, as the treatment of this complication.
