Abstract

Bone metastases occur in one third of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma. Bone involvement is characterized by aggressive, lytic lesions that can cause great morbidity. Surgical treatment is the treatment of choice because radiotherapy and chemotherapy are usually not effective. We report a case where the patient underwent conventional treatment (plate fixation) for a fracture that had not previously been diagnosed as pathological. In the evolution, there was appearance and growth of a tumor in the thigh with clinical and radiographic signs of a typical lesion of renal cell carcinoma metastasis. The ideal conduct in these cases is the wide ressection, with curative intent. Patients with single metastasis due to renal cell carcinoma have better prognosis than those with various metastases and are a special chapter in the treatment of bone metastases.
