Abstract

Mueller-Weiss disease (or avascular necrosis of the navicular) causes complex biomechanical changes in the feet, and their prevalence and incidence are unknown. Clinical features are: pain with insidious onset in the middle-foot, more frequent in women between 5 and 6 decades, unilateral, and associated with clinical and radiographic deformity in the navicular bone. Conservative treatment includes changes in lifestyle (such as weight loss, and changes in the shoe wear). In cases not responsive to clinical treatment, surgical treatment is a viable option. Modeling triplice arthrodesis is one of the surgical options for the most severe cases with the objective of: improvement of pain, and correction of deformity with recovery of windfoot alignment. The objective of this article is to demonstrate the surgical technique of modeling triple arthrodesis and its functional results.
