Synovial chondromatosis is a rare disease characterized by synovial metaplasia of the joints, in some cases producing intraarticular loose bodies, usually affecting large joints such as the hip and knee. Less commonly, can affect small joints such as the elbow and the ankle. It initially starts with nonspecific symptoms such as pain and edema, associated with blockage or decreased joint mobility in more advanced cases due to the subchondral bone erosion that can eventually be found. We described a case report of synovial osteochondromatosis of the ankle in a young male patient, treated surgically by arthroscopy with removal of all free loose bodies followed by partial synovectomy.
