Abstract

Distal tibiofibular syndesmosis is a complex anatomical structure, essential for stability and function of the ankle. Ankle fractures are often associated with syndesmosis lesions. The chronic instability of syndesmosis is associated with functional impairments and early development of osteoarthritis. We report the case of a 28-year-old patient who evolved with ankle subluxation and chronic syndesmosis instability, 8 months after the conservative treatment of an initially stable ankle fracture. His reconstruction was performed using autologous semitendinosus graft and fibular elongation with graft of the proximal tibia.
