Abstract

Avulsion fractures of the ischial tuberosity are uncommon in adolescence. The origin of the hamstring muscles is the most commonly affected site, before the closure of the physis. We report the case of a 12-year-old patient, a rhythmic gymnastics athlete who, after a neglected traumatic injury to the sciatic apophysis for 5 years, had progressive pain and a drop in sports performance. She was treated surgically for chronic injury of the hamstring origin, through open reduction and tendon reinsertion using anchors. She had an unfavorable outcome in terms of return to high-performance activities, without limitations for daily activities.
